I currently live among the green, green fields of Iowa and I love sculpture, ceramics and photography - but my passion is for One-of-a-Kind "OOAK" figurative sculpture using professional quality Polymer clay. Two key elements of my work are capturing movement, and/or a meaningful moment or look. I love expressions and details and I lean toward realism rather than fantasy. I often complete my figures in pairs so that they relate to each other. They usually range from 7" to 14" tall.
My figurines begin with a handmade wire and foil armature to lend strength to a chosen gesture. I do not use any molds or bought parts for the structure. Clay is added in layers of 'muscle upon bone' according to accurate human anatomy. Clay or mulberry paper clothing, fine wool hair, and mixed media accessories complete a character and its story. Pastels and paints give final details to skin tone and facial features. Each piece takes around three to four weeks to complete depending on its size.
