Hi, my name is Margaret Schofield, I am British but have lived in the USA for 35 years, currently in Pennsylvania. When I was younger I had a short attention span and was always in a hurry to finish a project, which usually meant I wasn’t exactly happy with the final result. As I have grown older my patience level has improved and now there is nothing more important to me than taking my time and aiming for the best I can achieve. I have always been fascinated and appreciative of the skills and workmanship that goes into “Hand Crafted” items, my husband rolls his eyes and laughs when he hears me say “Oh, look at that, I would love to try to do that!”. I love variety, and sculpting and dressing an artdoll enables me to incorporate many of my “loves”. I have been sculpting on and off for several years along with the many other hobbies I have. My first love has always been sewing whether it is home décor, my daughter’s wedding dress or fun snowmen as Christmas gifts. Christmas is my favorite time of year, I especially like the warm, happy face of Santa Claus. My first “handmade” Santa was created with a readymade head, it was in fact a Christmas tree ornament, I attached a body and dressed him in beautiful reds and golds. I so enjoyed making him but felt there was something missing…………I realized it felt like cheating, I needed to sculpt the head myself. I have been lucky enough to take a class with both Jack Johnston and Mark Dennis both of which were incredible experiences, I came home from each class with a ready to dress OOAK Art Doll made by me. This took me to another of my favorite parts of creating……..….dressing them. I like to hand sew as much of the clothing as I can, starting with their underwear, (my Santa’s always wear all in one long johns with tiny buttons) and I enjoy finishing to the minutest detail. I use Prosculpt polymer clay and enjoy finding just the right fabrics and accessories, whether they are new, recycled or vintage. Now that I am retired, I hope to spend a lot more time working on creating more Artdolls.
